The Penn State wrestling program went across the country to fill one of its biggest needs.
California star upperweight Morgan McIntosh, the nation’s No. 2 overall recruit according to InterMat, has orally committed to Penn State after visiting campus twice. The two-time state champion made his most recent on-campus visit earlier this month.
McIntosh is projected to wrestle either 184 or 197 at Penn State. The 197-pound division is the lone weight in the program without a state or national prep champion in the 2011-12 pipeline.
McIntosh captured California state titles as a sophomore and junior at 171 and 189 at Calvary Chapel High School in Santa Ana. He also earned a freestyle title during this past summer’s Junior National Championships in Fargo, N.D.
McIntosh joins Franklin Regional’s Nico Megaludis in Penn State’s 2011 recruiting class. Megaludis, a two-time PIAA Class AAA champ and the nation’s No. 6 recruit, orally committed to the Nittany Lions last October. Megaludis is projected to wrestle either 125 or 133.
McIntosh and Megaludis will sign national letters of intent during next month’s early signing period. The duo joins four other top-10 recruits to commit to Penn State since coach Cael Sanderson’s arrival in April 2009. The group also includes redshirt freshmen David Taylor and Jake Kemerer and true freshmen Andrew and Dylan Alton.
